GM and LG team up on electric vehicles

GeneralMotorsLGCorp02.jpg

Auto maker, General Motors and LG group will work together to design and engineer vehicles thanks to a new partnership that extends to LG's earlier work of the GM in lithium ion batteries.  Formerly LG delivered battery in the Chevrolet Volt, the Opel Ampera, then demo fleet Chevrolet Cruze electric vehicles.

According to the company their goal is to reduce costs and time required to build electric cars.

LG will cover half the cost for new EVs and will work together with engineers from GM for joint work on components of the vehicle structure and architecture. LG will also be a GM supplier for components which he allowed to sell other auto makers. This means that this partnership will be good for the electric vehicle industry as a whole and not just GM.

The case comes at a time when the United States, automakers are under pressure to raise corporate average fuel economy (CAFE), the recent agreement. By the end of 2025, they must meet Cafe 54.5 mpg (23.2 km/l) – purpose, which will include measures to improve internal combustion and diesel engines, for the most part. But GM said that electric vehicles should play "central role" in achieving the objectives of the CafĂ©, too.

There is no deadline for launch vehicles.

The patent describes a solar-powered iPhone charger for Apple laptops

iphone-solar-case2-thumb-500x375-5426

Among the 16 new patents issued, Apple this week, the United States Patent and Trademark Office is a pretty interesting one description of a solar-powered charger for electronic devices. The patent describes a system that includes a voltage converter and controller, which will work together with the source of solar energy.

Voltage converter will be made to the source of solar energy input cable. It will also be attached to the "electronic loads through the output cable. That "electronic loads" can be "portable electronic devices," said filing – which basically means almost anything Apple does with iPhones to MacBooks.

Voltage converter is configured to control the amount of energy, developed the device at its products, while a controller configured to control voltage converter in order to reduce the amount of power drawn later, if it goes through a predefined threshold. In other words this is a key part of solar charging system for electronics.

Apple previously filed patents for support of solar panels, which will work as a source of power for mobile devices as well as a method for coating a device in solar batteries. However, it is unlikely that we will see reduced solar-powered gadgets from Apple (or anyone for that matter), to the costs associated with their production.

FlyKly electric bikes come in San Francisco

flykly.warranty

Electric bike maker FlyKly brings his stylish, powerful and eco-friendly bicycles in San Francisco after the fountain start in New York earlier this summer. Company that opened a shop on 20 June, sold his entire stock of bikes in July at a pop-up shop in Soho. Now bikes are in San Francisco.

Calling these things "bicycle" seems strange, though the term conjures up streamers with the rudder and woven baskets strapped to the front. Instead, these "bike" look like scooters. But since bikes don't go miles, you don't need a license to drive them.

New bikes come in two versions: a vintage and modern, each sport 100% electric lithium ion battery. For only $ 's electricity cost you get 1000 miles away, said FlyKly, 40 miles recharging. (Battery reaches full charge within a few hours). The battery is removable, so you can charge it in anywhere you want. And if you ever run out of battery, you can manually pedal to keep going.

As conventional bicycles bikes can be parked and FlyKly tied fenceposts, bicycle rack, sidewalks and parking garages offer spaces for bicycles. Steering wheel and the rear wheels locked parking lot. And just in case the bikes also include a GPS tracking system to find your bike if he ever starts to move, if you're not on it.

Yes and if you're wondering "Kly", is a Greek word which means "permanent energy or movement".

FlyKly sells bikes for $1900 and delivery is free in the United States. You can read more about bicycles at the company's website here: www.flykly.com.

13-year-old design effective solar cell inspired by Oaks

Dwyer

When it comes to the use of renewable energy solutions, sometimes nature has the best idea. It was a 13-year-old Aidan Dwyer finally after Winter campaign in New York City–catskill mountains, a trip that inspired him to build solar panels unique and effective design.

Dwyer observed patterns in trees and, after further research and contemplation, understood branches, corresponds to the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical model to find all of nature, such as falcon flight path, nautilus shells and balance in the human body.

Dwyer assumed that the scheme helped trees photosynthesis and tested his hypothesis by creating miniature trees shaped solar panels. Project award its 2011 young naturalist of the American Museum of natural history.

7-Grader describes his experiments in a detailed essay:

I designed and built my test model, copying the Fibonacci pattern of oak. I studied my results with a compass and realized branch angles. Template about 137 degrees and the Fibonacci sequence 2/5. Then I built model using this template from PVC pipes. In place of leaves I used Photovoltaic Solar panels, hooked in the series, created by 1/2 Volt, so the peak output model was 5 volts. The entire design of the duplicate template oak as close as possible.

Design created by up to 50% more power than the traditional model of the solar installation during periods of low sunlight. Separate solar panels different angles helps array capture light, even when the Sun is very low in the sky. And because they do not lie flat, many of these groups are also less affected by the shadow and snow.

At this point in the experiment design Dwyer backyard, but maybe in the future we'll see gardens on the roof, the solar tree of arrays.

It is hard to believe that Google's street view has been in use for over four years. More surprisingly perhaps, given the speed at which they are briefly discussed in the world of streets and alleyways that nowhere is left unmapped. But while their team successfully detected on the surface of most major cities and a number of other interesting areas, I believe he will not come as a surprise that the remote reaches of the Amazon is not subject to the lens.

They seek to change this, however, and are detailed in a blog post their plans on the street-Ize a large section of the River. This is done in collaboration with the sustainable Amazon Fund, a nonprofit working in the field.

To map the entire length of the Amazon and its tributaries and distributaries, so the work years, however, Google does not attempt to, just yet (although there are many spots to abandon Orange guy, if you're interested). At the moment they focus their efforts on a 50 km stretch of the Rio Negro, starting around Manaus, right about the images:

They also went down to the dirt in the small villages with the street view Trike, a comparison of all the time and a tripod, which they use to show business interiors give panoramic taste of village life. And how little parting shot of mercy, they will be leaving some equipment, probably some cameras and laptops to use FAS and locals. All this is some kind of advertising play for sustainability, not that there's anything wrong with that.

No word on when the project is completed, from what I read (travelogues from the 19th century, but still), these types of trips usually takes longer than expected, but you can see some photos of their work on the blog of Google.

GM makes money from the platforms, not just cars. The thought of Cadillac SENSE ELR just announced, sleek Coupe built on the platform, sportster Voltec, which also powers the Volt. Dual power Caddy was rumored to be known, since the concept (pictured here) was shown at the 2009 North American International Auto show. Well friends, this is.

PRI will use the same version of the Voltec, that the powers of the Volt, including the same 4-cylinder 1.4 l-turbo-generator. It does sound nothing more than the cost of custom reskinned volts instead of electric Roadster this sexy sheet metal SENSE ELR. Nothing says American Sports Coupe as 0-60 times in the eight and a half seconds.

Cadillac will announce any real details on the upcoming Coupe. "Development is just SENSE ELR, so information about the performance, price and date will be announced later," says a press release.

Advanced Coupe design actually makes a lot of sense for Volt 2 + 2 configuration. Rear seats are not all that in one way or another. This change can design allows you to slip through the air with less resistance. The photos shown here are the Converj concept 2009. The brand is very loyal to his sharp lines and massive Grill design so that the production version will probably follow the same styling cues if not be exactly the same thing.

The Chevy Volt is not exactly was a huge success for GM. Auto maker had sold just 125 last month and less than 3000 this year. The model will soon be available throughout the country, which could help move more than the dealer's lot. This model Cadillac will be the second car production outside of Europe and Australia Cousins Volt use series and hybrid powertrain. Because it is a logo Crest and wreath, it may even be comfortable cabins instead of plastic toys, it's the Chevy Volt.

Ford to sell solar panel system along with electric cars

ford-sunpower

Ford Motor Company is teaming up with solar panels on the basis of the San Jose maker of SunPower to offer option on the roof of the solar system, which will be sold along with the upcoming EV Ford focus. "Drive green for life", as it is called, includes installation of solar panels on the customer home.

These panels will not be used only to charge the focus, however. They really help offset the cost that comes with the need to charge the car, what most electric car owners do every night.

Solar panels 2.5 kilowatt system compensates for the cost of about 1000 miles per month, "said Ford. After the federal tax rebates, the cost would be around $ 10000. Some local and State benefits may also be available, but it's still pretty expensive system.

At least Ford and SunPower were relevant demographic. Parameter must refer to the environmentalists, who want to buy an electric car, but don't want to feel guilty about consuming all additional electricity to charge it. In the end it is not this "green" to drive electric when charging your car with the use of fossil fuels.

The solar system consists of 147-square-foot rooftop panels. There are 11 panels, size 4 to 2 feet. Customers will be able to monitor the work of the panels, online and through specially iPhone app. SunPower also provides you with a 25-year warranty for the system that is installed on the clients home Best Buy Geek Squad. Best buy also has a contract with Ford for installing home Chargers.

Pricing and exact launch date for the new Ford Focus 2012 is not yet available, but the car will go on sale first in California and New York in the 4th quarter of 2011. Ford also plans to start 5 other electric or hybrid electric models in 2012 in North America and in Europe by 2013.

Renewable energy consumption Tops nuclear first time

wind_energy

According to a new report from the United States energy information Administration (EIA) engery consumption from renewable energy sources, recently topped both current and historical consumption for nuclear energy. Move immediately was caused by nuclear power, which coincided with the season of water for hydropower.

But there is a long-term trend in renewable sources of energy, which can be seen here, also, due to increased consumption of biofuels and wind energy capacity.

In the short term, the transition from nuclear to renewable energy depended on the United States weather trends. The western part of the United States saw record snowfall this year, leading to the HYDROELECTRIC works on stretched longer than usual. This happened while many nuclear facilities have been closed for routine maintenance and refueling, which is typical for this time of year. (NUCLEAR POWER PLANT shut down twice, once in spring, once in the winter).

However, the graphics, provided by EIA show long-term transition to renewable sources of energy as well, pointing out that this is not a fluke, caused by the coincidence timing of weather and plant shutdowns.

To compare different sources of energy consumed is measured in the year (British thermal units). In January, the consumption of renewable sources of energy was 724 trillion a year, when nuclear consumption was at 761 trillion a year. March, renewable energy sources reached 795 trillion a year, compared with 687 trillion a year for nuclear. And by April, it was 798 trillion year for renewable energy — 571 trillion a year for nuclear.

Renewable energy not only mean the Sun, wind, water, and geothermal sources, reminds us of the EIA. It also includes biofuels like ethanol and biodisel fuels and biomass both wood and wood waste.

This shift in energy consumption does not mean that renewable energy is now our main source of electrical power, however. Outside of the electricity generated energy is also used to produce steam transport, Heating and industrial.

Below you can see that renewable energy is still a bit lower than nuclear. But if these trends in renewable energy it is necessary to pass nuclear here, too, somewhere in the next few years.

GE invests up to $ 40 million in eSolar.

esolar-logo

General Electric Co. (GE) bought a minority stake in the California Solar company eSolar this week. Because of the deal, Paul Browning, President and CEO of solar thermal products for GE Energy, eSolar will join the Board of Directors.

ESolar is a license agreement with GE Energy that granted him exclusive rights throughout the world in eSolar modular technology for its solution, an integrated solar combined cycle power plant (ISCC). This decision, coupled with "50" FlexEfficiency combined cycle power plant of its own, is able to deliver the GE fuel efficiency more than 70%.

In less technical terms, this means that GE believes the combination of technologies, natural gas and solar is the best solution for renewable sources of energy. This combination will ultimately be most effective, most flexible and most affordable solution to address the global problem of climate change, the company said in a release (by using more complex language, of course).

Hybrid solar power plants

During the day, these plants are "hybrid" are using the Sun's heat to produce steam for the steam system, which generates electricity. This is done through the use of small, flat, modular mirrors to reflect heat back into the receiver mounted Tower. Natural gas is not used in the daytime. However, at night, or during periods of cloud cover, the plant will use natural gas.

GE of the ISCC technology currently exclude China and India, but companies say they are now targeting Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the United States.

ESolar was founded in 2007, the founder of Idealab, Bill gross, with a view to the use of modular form factors, combined with advanced software systems for the delivery of cost-competitive solar energy.

HaloIPT wireless speed-charged electric machines

HaloIPT

Those who resist buying an electric car, because Charging stations are less ubiquitous than gas stations or figuring out how to charge your car at home it seems difficult, one less excuse to go green. The new system from the British HaloIPT car will start to charge wirelessly using induction.

Wireless energy transfer is a car battery for the current charge, similar to the concept of recharging an electric toothbrush, but with much more energy. Each car is equipped with a car that is ready to gain power.

This technology can also work for moving vehicles. The company cooperates with Drayson Racing technology to test drive technology that uses inductive power transfer via transmitters placed in the Hippodrome. Cars must not be directly over the transmitter to produce electricity, and they must be parked for so HaloIPT said that the system will work even when drivers swerve around their competitors.

It will be a while before racing car sees the start of a line: HaloIPT and Drayson, the plan should be ready for showtime to the end of 2015. But HaloIPT hopes to use what he learns with Drayson applied technology to the needs of car drivers do not race.

At the same time, Wireless charging fans can ogle on stationary system model, featured in the pilot 102EX Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Groupon for solar? Building Solar @ Work offers rebates for Going Green together

solar-panels

Buying group enters into commercial space clean energy through Solar @ Work programme developed by the San Francisco Department of the environment to ensure greater accessibility of solar panels for business owners. Companies have three options to get solar panels through the programme: procurement, leasing and credit. Federal grant covering 30% of the cost of installation is also on offer.

Solar Xpert@work hoped to sign on at least 20 owners in the area of the San Francisco buildings by the end of the year, that can be translated as 2 megawatts of solar energy.

While the program is innovative in simplifying solar commercial buildings, this is not the first harness group purchasing power for solar. 1Bog has a similar model for solar installations, at home, and SolarMosaic represents a crowdfunding platform for attraction of the Sun for public buildings such as schools and churches.

Group buying model can discount panels at 10-15% and reduce the cost of administrative fees at 75%. It doesn't sound like steal group buying consumer standards, but considering the price of solar panels, it can add up to significant savings. The city said, is the main obstacle to the entry into solar high upfront cost of solar most commercial property owners.

San Mateo SolarCity has won the tender to provide dashboards, and the participating enterprises are expected to pay less for Sun than what they pay for power from the grid. Currently, less than the four-story commercial buildings have the right to participate in the program. If the pilot is successful, this could be extended to other areas of the country, or even global level.

Consumers talked and listened to Nissan. 2012, Nissan Leaf wraps now more standard features — and markedly higher price. Since 25 July, the second year in a worksheet model will be available for ordering in the southeastern part of the United States of America and Illinois. Users with existing reservations are first chips, though. If those consumers still on Board once they see the new price.

The trim level SV jumps from $ 33.720 to $ 35.200 from the trim level SL, increased from $ 34.650 to $ 37.250. The high cost of probable cause new standard features on both models. Package cold weather now come standard and feature a battery warmer, heated steering wheel, and front and rear heated seats. All SL trim level vehicles also will be equipped with DC fast charge port which allows vehicles due to 80% within 30 minutes from the station 480V.

Even with the new price sheet is in the range of the Chevy Volt. GM has recently dropped the price of the Volt for a bit and it now has an MSRP of $ 40.280. Leaf and Volt still get up to $ 7500 tax credit. When it is deemed that the worksheet is still available for less than $ 30 k, though only barely.

I'm not so sure that my review of the list would be so enthusiastic If sheet featured the new prices. Heated seats and steering wheel should decrease the battery draw reduce the need for conventional water heater, but I'm not sure new features justify the high price.

Plate BioLite charges your phone while cooking dinner

biolite stove

Wood-fired ovens are not known for being particularly effective, and their smoke not only contains a high carbon emissions, but it is a threat to those who inhale his health. Portable design of BioLite seeks to solve this problem and transform furnace in cell phone charger in the process.

Furnace converts thermal energy into electricity, powering a small fan to improve wood. In addition, one or two Watts are available for charging your mobile phone or led light via the USB port.

The company sees the two markets for their oven: families in developing countries and an avid hikers and campers. BioLite will release version CampStove first, in the spring of 2012. They hope to profit from this product will help subsidize the cost of HomeStove model for families in developing countries.

BioLite claims require half of the amount of wood as an open fire and smoke emissions by 95%. Because billions of people depend on fuel wood for cooking stove has the potential to improve the health status and perhaps a little curb deforestation.

CampStove model weighs less than two pounds and one litre of water in less than four minutes. Various materials can be used for power supply, including sticks, pine cones, manure, rice husks and undergrowth. This may be convenient for holidaymakers, tired of carrying cans of gas or oil to power their plates.

BioLite has already won awards for their designs, including the St. Andrews prize for the environment and first place in the sustainable brands innovation open 2010.

BioLite COO Jonathan Den Hartog explains how to operate the furnace:

The prices of rare earth elements has gone through the roof in recent years, with China, mainly the monopolization of the market for these rare substances (the country currently produces a whopping 97 percent of all rare earth elements, used globally). However, in the area of electric vehicles, dependence on rare earths may soon be a thing of the past: Prof. Nobukazu Hoshi lab, Tokyo University of natural sciences has developed an electric car that does not require any rare earths.

The current prototype (altered Mazda Roadster since 1999) eats 400V/9.5 kWh hybrid car engine. Lithium battery consists of five modules that change the size and weight of 20 kg 215x335x210mm. Professor Hoshi had developed the so-called switched reluctance motor that boasts a 50 kW-rare earth elements needed.

In the video, embedded below (shot Diginfonews in Tokyo), Professor, explains the technology behind Motor and points out there is room for improvement (in particular, he wants to increase torque and energy efficiency and the reduction of noise and vibration).

However, a pretty impressive achievement for the laboratory of the University (Toyota works on rare earth elements-free engine for electric cars, too).

People power

india-hydro

As I type this, the UPS beeps furiously behind me for Growl in a half-dozen diesel generators on the Street outside. I am in an Internet Cafe in Leh, a town nestled in the Himalayan Valley, surrounded by a 6000 metres/bird's eye visors, fast-growing capital of India's northern territory of Ladakh. He obviously got his electric power; power cuts hit several times a day.

Electricity production is deeply unsexy, but profoundly important issue in developing countries. Technology is transforming the lives of busily around the world even as you read this, but the lack of reliable electricity is a massive obstacle even in large cities, the more remote villages.

Various people are imperfect and ingenious ways to cope. I was once on a river in Guatemala, where Captain distributed recently powered phone batteries for residents scattered along the river and collected their old for charging when he returned to civilization. You can find shops selling the equipment small solar power in remote small towns throughout Uganda and sometimes microhydro generators in the Himalayas; and people around the world through the huge (and toxic) number of scarce (and expensive) diesel generators which are their lights.

But there has to be better, and more. In particular I've had my eye on international Fenix for awhile now. The ReadySet battery has two cigars light and two USB displays battery radios, lights and batteries in and of itself can be recharged via solar bicycle or wall power. In addition, they recently released a universal charger, which can include almost any lithium ion battery via the USB connector. (I wish I knew this before would be set out in this trip, I could have left both of my camera-battery chargers at home.)

It gets better and wackier. There is also this BioLite stove, energize your mobile phone and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently awarded $ 100000 in the project, which seeks to use soil microorganisms to power fuel cells, which reportedly can be built from scratch in a few minutes for pennies. I must admit I'm a bit skeptical, but I'll be watching with interest.

In the long run, of course, localized passive projects are not enough for serious economic development; a sizable and stable power supply. But in the interim period, a little energy is generally much better than no and can make a huge difference. So here's hoping that these microbes form a Megahit.

"In short, we must invent the toilet." here's what Sylvia Mathews Burwell, President of the & Bill Melinda Gates Foundation's global development program, recently announced it will be addressing the Conference AfrikaSan in Kigali, where she called on the so-called donors, Governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations to reinvent the toilet. Yes WC.

The idea is noble. Most developing countries do not have access to flush toilets. As Burwell specifies other innovations during the past 200 years, saved lives and improve the health status of the flush toilet, but revolution defecation achieved only one third of the world. & Bill Melinda Gates Foundation hope Kindle and improve the lives of millions.

Fund standing for his call to arms with $ 42 million. The aim is to improve the capture and storage of waste, as well as turn it into some used as energy, fertilizers and fresh water. These new grants to join the Fund's commitment to water, sanitation hygiene & which is now only $ 265 million.

Of course this will not be easy. More than 2.6 billion people lack proper toilet, but more importantly, the proper disposal of waste. Next-gen toilet must be sustainable, hygienic, but still depends on the sewage systems. This objective will be the device that actually convert waste fuel or even safe drinking water.

The challenge of innovation joins the United Nations by the year 2015 the MDG to halve the number of people who do not have access to basic sanitation. The World Health Organization claims that proper sanitation is not just a counter health concerns. It also increases productivity, reduces healthcare costs and every $ 1 invested can be worth $ 9 in the backend.

As innovators and tinkers, you've heard the call. It's time to start building better shitter.

Belkiz feedaway high chair

Although I'm sure that it is 100% safe, it's a bit strange to see this Wee, sitting in a Chair, Belkinz cardboard folds flat and can be completely destroyed, if/when the younger continues lateral mashed potatoes.

Kit, the Australian firm, available for purchase, but it can be a bit difficult to find around these parts. It is good for children who are up to 20 months, and it seems ideal for toting in restaurants, Grandma's House and other places, you can't drag the whole Chair.

Feedaway is "safe, strong and outside the shops in the tiny space" and it is also believed to be in some way, water and fire. It takes about three minutes to collect (after you have collected a few of them). Cut from a single sheet of cardboard "to minimize waste." has been around for some time, actually, but it's just rolling in retail quantities, which is kind of exciting in dull, parents of the Young child kind of way.

LEGO cased computer Crunches effectively for a good cause

lego case closed sideview

For many people building with Legos brings back fond memories. For Mike Schropp remains are the memories. Schropp loves Legos, often including them in technology. For his latest project, Schropp built a PC 12-core tucked into a custom made case he designed using some 2000 black Lego bricks. The finished product is not only an awesome looking, but and energy efficiency.

Schropp is interested in creating a machine that could contribute to some of its computing power network community, helping data compression to solve medical problems. He initially built a car from scratch, but thought adding a fourth computer home seemed excessive.

Instead, Schropp challenged himself to optimize and accelerate its existing installation by combining the best of his machines into one Super box. He hoped to hold not more than $ 2000 and to build a machine that can handle 100 000 "points" of a day to world community grid. Because the machine is designed for crunching 24 hours a day, energy efficiency is of particular importance in the design process.

With the help of his collection of Lego bricks Schropp turned into one of three or fewer computers. The finished product contains a trio of CPU coolers, motherboards, SSDs, DDR3 memory and eight fans. The group works on only one power supply, which changes to power all Schropp three systems. Schropp is designed to allow for as many Lego air between CPUS and motherboards.

Thanks to a new, giant box folding fermu"sposobstvuet Schropp's ' humanitarian and medical research, using less power than the sum of the three boxes, works independently.

Three in one box consumes about 670 Watts of power for crunch about 135 000 points per day, compared to only one of the old stations Schropp in PCs that used 350 w crunching close to 10.000 points on the day. Despite this power supply is more than what the system needs pending add yet another level in the future.

Nissan leaf owners, take note. Sheet companion app now available in Android and BlackBerry aromas. These applications run the Smartphone running iOS version along with the sheet earlier this year. All the key features here: battery level indicator, estimated range and climate control functions.

Download free apps themselves, the owners of the sheet is not required. But they certainly have the worksheet properly. Nevertheless, the prospect of buyers or curious viewers, you can download and explore the apps for free.

I looked at the app iOS sheet during my time with leaves. This fine app, providing owners with access to key functions of a worksheet from a distance. The only notable missing feature is the ability to lock the car.

Buying an electric car

David Cowan Picture

This is a guest post is a venture capitalist David Cowan. David recently purchased a Nissan leaf after the car is less than two years.

After 3.5 years I finally reunited community car owners.

Since February 2008 and last week I had a car less. I borrowed and rented cars, taxis and cars and occasionally biked. I am also bummed many attractions (thank you-you know who you are). It started when expired warranty on my fantasy of the German Gas Guzzler; I sold the thing and really never took the time to shop around for a replacement – who has time for that?

I felt much more excited about the prospect of driving electric sedan to be greener, faster, easier and cheaper fuel. The most important thing I would never kill ten minutes, stopping at a gas – who has time for that? So I put my name in the lists for the Tesla model S, Fisker Karma, Nissan leaf or Chevy Volt decided to wait for one to be built. Three years later, I got calls from Fisker, Nissan and Chevy, and it's time to take a decision.

After examining the options and driving, it was fairly easy to buy sheet for these eight reasons:

1. compared with other, leaf gets twice the range of the battery charge: 100 miles, or 85 miles from AC engine. (Connect car and adds about 15 seconds in a day in your everyday life, or 5 minutes per month – about half the time we spend on gas pumps).

2. from a purely motor (not hybrid petrol engine) worksheet is nimbler, less fragile, and legal to drive in California carpool lanes so I can bypass traffic jams Highway 101 – WHTFT?

3. Driving in electric mode (without the aid of a hybrid gasoline engine) is surprisingly quiet and smooth (not transfer). Even at 80 miles per hour acceleration is immediate and impressive.

4 Sheet sends as smoothly as the Lexus, and small wheels turn on a dime.

5. only sheet has an open, comfortable seats with ample leg room, head to the front and back (optional, if you have children)

6. only sheet transports 5 passengers (optional, if you have three kids)!

7 sheet is the largest of the trunk and rear fold down for more cargo space.

8. final expenditure 3/4 as much as the Volt and 1/3 as much as Karma. You will receive at least $ 7500 in tax benefits, offset by the cost of $ 220 volt 2.000 home docking station.

These reasons explain why the Nissan leaf now outsells package. I can think of only three good reasons why you can buy one of the other cars:

1 sheet of clean electric motor is not a problem for the two car families in this rare day once a month, when you drive more than 100 miles, you can always use a gas Guzzler instead (Honda Odysseys are awesome). But without this backup one car household will find volts more practical (though expensive and cramped).

2. If you love driving massive, heavy sports car that sit low to the ground and you've got $ 100 k to burn (as these guys), then you may prefer a gorgeous design of Karma. It has the appearance and luxury car muscle with growling engine, bucket seats and a beautiful wood/leather interiors. (A worksheet is all plastic). Having said that, Karma is like a sports car at lower speeds, but on the highway I found it quite slow compared to the worksheet. Karma processed Highway acceleration almost as sheet only when in quiet mode, which means that the petrol engine is turned off. (You may be disappointed, as I was to learn that people can still see you in quiet mode).

3. Stephen Colbert will tease you for driving sheet.

All three machines are chock full of gizmos we all love (rear view camera, keyless entry, navigation system, XM Radio, Bluetooth, heated seats, ...), so there is no reason to stick with petrol. Sheet even comes with a cool iPhone app for remote control battery charger and climate control.

So I'm zipping around in my leaves for a week now and absolutely love it. Even after three years he was worth the wait.
