Plate BioLite charges your phone while cooking dinner

Wood-fired ovens are not known for being particularly effective, and their smoke not only contains a high carbon emissions, but it is a threat to those who inhale his health. Portable design of BioLite seeks to solve this problem and transform furnace in cell phone charger in the process.

Furnace converts thermal energy into electricity, powering a small fan to improve wood. In addition, one or two Watts are available for charging your mobile phone or led light via the USB port.

The company sees the two markets for their oven: families in developing countries and an avid hikers and campers. BioLite will release version CampStove first, in the spring of 2012. They hope to profit from this product will help subsidize the cost of HomeStove model for families in developing countries.

BioLite claims require half of the amount of wood as an open fire and smoke emissions by 95%. Because billions of people depend on fuel wood for cooking stove has the potential to improve the health status and perhaps a little curb deforestation.

CampStove model weighs less than two pounds and one litre of water in less than four minutes. Various materials can be used for power supply, including sticks, pine cones, manure, rice husks and undergrowth. BioLite has already won awards for their designs, including the St. Andrews prize for the environment and first place in the sustainable brands innovation open 2010.
